The Record of the North
Lycon was a city-state of Arbellor, sitting on the southern shores of the Sunreach. It is an impoverished place with rich pasture-land. The throne was until recently held by the Lady Regent Esperte, sister of the late King Gaharet, against the majority of Prince Yustan, called the Just. Yustan disappeared in Gamelion of 2241K when his hunting party was surprised in the woods, however, and he has not been found dead or alive. Ripensan arrows were found at the scene, but King Galafre has consistently denied any involvement.
The question of succession in Lycon became moot on 20 and 21 Metageitnion, 2242. The city was overrun by a Sargothine army that struck suddenly out of the night, putting the famous orchards and fields of the city to the flame. The defending forces were at a fraction of their strength due to the heavy levies that the Lady Regent allowed the Flamen Cantor to draw from her armies, and the Sargothine army quickly gained the walls and laid waste to the city. Their aim seems to have been to destroy, not capture, Lycon, and the few survivors report that they left the city in flames. Rumors abound that the Sargothines fought with magically animated clay soldiers who showed no pity or remorse, and were reinforced both by the dark magics of the Ebon Brotherhood and the terrifying servants of their god.
